Avertano released his report card-cum-manifesto at his office in the presence of his workers and supporters, including sarpanchas of Navelim and Telaulim Frank Fernandes and Mauricio Carneiro and former Sarpanchas and deputy Sarpanchas of the Rumdamol village panchayat.
“I have decided to contest as an Independent in the coming election. If any political party wants to back my candidature, it is most welcome,” Avertano told the media. He also firmly ruled out withdrawing from the election fray with GPCC president Faleiro throwing his hat in the electoral ring.
“I want to make it amply clear there’s no question of withdrawing from the fray. I will contest the coming election as an Independent,” he asserted.
His supporters from Navelim, Telaulim, Rumdamol, Davorlim and Mandopa showered praises on his leadership qualities and his ability to get host of projects.
Noted comedian, Agostinho Themudo, in his brief address, said that Avertano has lived up to the expectations of Navelkars, adding that remaining work can be completed in the next five years.
“There are some people who cannot see the development in Navelim because they are ageing and cannot see properly. Avertano should organize eye camps for these people so that they can see the development,” Agostinho said.
Both the Navelim and Telaulim Sarpanchas endorsed the development undertaken by the Independent MLA during the last five years. Former Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Ramesh Desai also praised Avertano for the development works during the last five years.
Construction of a tiatr bhavan, a steel bridge for two-wheelers across the tributary from Chantamorod to St Joseph Chapel, development of football grounds in the villages, a new shopping complex in Navelim centre are amongt the projects
