Avoid closed door Zilla meetings, Sawant tells candidates

Saying that polling staff manning the polling booths on the day of March 22 Zilla Panchayat  election will be equipped with face masks and sanitisers, Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant on Monday reiterated that political parties and the candidates should not hold closed door meetings in view of the Coronavirus scare.

The chief minister denied that he had any closed door meeting in his home constituency, accusing

certain people for using an old photograph to spread false information.

“People should not worry on the day of election. The polling staff drafted for polling duties will be

equipped with face masks and sanitisers. No one should take any action on the safety measures on the day of poling”, he said.

He reiterated that political parties and candidates should not be allowed to hold closed door meetings, adding there should be no harm in having the meetings at open places.

Saying that the government is taking a daily review of the situation on the Coronavirus scare, the chief minister said people need not worry because of the virus. “From tomorrow, the health officials will start installing thermal screening equipment at the airport, MPT followed by the railway stations to screen the passengers. I would advise the people to avoid contact with others. Those who come down to the State should maintain safe distance from their relatives”, the chief minister said, adding that basic precautions will help prevent Coronavirus in the State.

Collector says no permission given for CM’s meetings
MARGAO: As Chief Minister Pramod Sawant hopped from one constituency to another in South Goa to address public meetings of party-backed candidates on Monday, South Goa district Collector Ajit Roy informed that the district authorities has not given any permission for any such meetings either today or day after. The district Collector did not go into the question when his attention was drawn to the meetings addressed by the Chief Minister in South Goa, other than saying that no such permission has been given for any meeting today or day after.
