Even as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant hopped from one constituency to another in South Goa to address public meetings of party-backed candidates on Monday, South Goa District Collector Ajit Roy informed that the district authorities have not given any permission to any such meetings either today or day after.
The District Collector did not go into the question when his attention was drawn to the meetings addressed by the Chief Minister in South Goa, other than saying that no such permission has been given for any meeting today or day after. When the media further sought to know whether permissions for election meetings will be issued for the next two-three days, Roy said, “As of now, the decision is no, unless the things change. The decision has to be taken by the state government. As of now, the decision is to discourage all such meetings.”
The District Collector’s stand assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant addressing election meetings in Davorlim Zilla Panchayat constituency on Monday evening.
South Goa District Congress Vice-president Deepak Kharangate on late Monday complained that the Chief Minister addressed an election meeting of BJP Guirdolim candidate Sanjana Velip at Balli, demanding to know whether the ban on holding public meetings is not
applicable for the CM and the ruling BJP.
