Awaiting report on incident: CM

PANAJI

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said he was awaiting the report from the Inspector General of Prisons on the assault case of Cavrem-Pirla panch Ravindra Velip, while stating that as he has taken a serious note of the incident.

Velip along with several others were arrested and sent to judicial custody for blocking the transportation of e-auctioned ore through their village. The plea of the villagers is to have the government give them a mining contract through a co-operative in the village or not transport the ore at all.

Earlier, the Department of Mines had warned the village panchayat that issues relating to mining were outside the purview of the local body and were entirely controlled by the central government as well as the state government.

The mines department also accused Velip as a panch member of “transgressing upon powers not vested in the local body and for trying to promote their commercial interests.”
