“We held an impromptu Congress Legislature Party meeting and decided to first seek an explanation from Vishwajit for his absence. Until then there will be no decision on what action is to be taken against him,” Kavlekar said soon after the house was adjourned.
It was later learnt that Vishwajit resigned not only from the Congress but also as a MLA to seek re-election.
The party also accused the government of being illegitimate, stealing the people’s mandate as well as conducting an improper vote of confidence.
Taking serious cognizance of the support extended by its Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao to the BJP government during the confidence motion moved in the House on Thursday, NCP’s central leadership has issued him a show cause notice and is likely to initiate action under the anti-defection law against the Benaulim strongman if he fails to explain his actions within seven days.
