Baburao Phadate Desai was on Thursday elected unopposed as chairman of Goa Dairy.
Desai said his priority will be to increase milk production in the State.
The meeting of directors unanimously decided to elect Desai for the chairman's post. Madhavrao Desai proposed Desai's candidature, while Vithoba Desai seconded it. Assistant Registrar Anil Naik Desai was the returning officer. Managing Director Dr Navasu Sawant was also present for the meeting.
Speaking to mediapersons, the newly-elected chairman said he aims to increase milk production in the State, as Goa Dairy has to depend on milk procured from neighbouring states.
“To achieve this goal, I have decided to take farmers into confidence and to acquaint ourselves about the problems they face. We will always provide them whatever help they require,” Desai said.
It may be recalled that Vithobha Desai was elected as chairman on October 25, 2014. However, on May 22, he faced a no-confidence motion moved by eight directors. He retained his seat defeating the motion by 5-7 votes.
