Residents along the Baga-Calangute coastal belt have voiced anger over the constant damage to the water pipeline, which has led to water shortage in the area since the past 15 days.
According to sources, the pipeline has got damaged six times in the area between Piety Chapel and Ronil Junction in the last two weeks and the reason behind these damages is still not known.
The PWD workers have been seen repeatedly repairing the damaged pipeline and locals have suspected the pipeline may have been damaged due to negligence during work at the underground sewage line.
“It is an irony that amid heavy rains we do not have water to drink,” complained a resident Swapnil Vaingankar.
He also claimed that besides the water pipeline, a stretch of road has also been damaged in Baga, making it difficult for people to drive on the road.
When contacted, Calangute Sarpanch Shawn Martins said it was unfair for people to hold the panchayat responsible for the constant damage to the pipeline.
“The panchayat is aware of water shortage and work is immediately undertaken to repair the damaged pipeline. Officials have been asked to ascertain the reason behind repeated damage to the pipeline,” said Martins.
