Not only have they questioned the double standards of the authorities, the locals have also ridiculed attempts to set up some structures on a beach which is devoid of tourism infrastructure and interest. Locals also claimed that ongoing four-lane flyover work and haphazard parking of trucks have done little to promote tourism along Baina beach.
“CRZ laws are applicable to everyone and GTDC is not above the law,” businessman Purshuram Shetye told The Goan.
“On the one hand, GCZMA demolishes illegal structures at Baina beach citing CRZ violations and on the other hand, is silent on concrete constructions which also violates CRZ rules,” added Shetye.
Reacting to GTDC’s statement that beautification at Baina beach would promote tourism, Shetye says: “GTDC should first come up with tourist-related activities to promote tourism and not construct a few concrete pergolas and carry out landscaping.”
“Why would tourists want to visit Baina beach to see a few pergolas when there is nothing of tourist interest,” asked Shetye.
