Fisheries Minister Vinoda Paliencar on Thursday assured the Legislative Assembly that ban on LED fishing would be implemented in the State, even as he sought some patience from members of the House.
“The Centre has already imposed ban on LED fishing. Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh has helped us and the State government has also assisted us. It will happen but it will take some time,” Paliencar said.
The fisheries minister was responding to demands for grants in fisheries in the Legislative Assembly.
Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo and Benaulim MLA, Churchill Alemao raised several queries and demanded assurance from the fisheries minister on the ban on LED fishing.
The Calangute MLA brought to the attention of the minister that LED fishing was affecting the business of local fishermen and he had to answer to them.
An agitated Benaulim MLA, Churchill Alemao asked whether the ban on LED fishing was a scientific or a political one.
Trying to assure the members of the House, Paliencar said everything had its time and place and a ban on LED fishing would also happen.
“It (ban on LED fishing) will happen and members need to have some patience,” Paliencar said.
Paliencar also assured
the House that Tillari project will be completed by December 2019.
“Work on Tillari project will be accomplished very soon. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has special interest in the project and it is expected to be completed by December 31, 2019. Once completed, the Tillari water will reach everywhere for drinking and irrigation,” he said.
CM Manohar Parrikar said there was law and order problem in Cutbona jetty.
“We will take action on illegal activities at Cutbona jetty. We will investigate the matter. Similar complaints have come from Neturlim,” Parrikar said.
The CM also assured that the State government was seized on the Mhadei issue and in touch with the Additional Solicitor General of India.
“We go totally on legal advice. We have already cleared the file on contempt petition. It may have been delayed by few days but we are on the job,” Parrikar said.
