With Goa going to assembly poll on February 4, authorities have imposed a complete ban on sale of liquor in the places bordering Karnataka and Goa.
According to a government press release, in order to maintain law and order during the assembly election in Goa, the State government has banned the sale and transportation of liquor in 10 kms in the districts bordering Goa.
The ban will commence from the midnight of February 1 till the midnight of February 4. Action under State Excise Act 1965 under Section 32 would be initiated against violators of the ban.
Accordingly, the ban would be in effect at Anmod on the NH4A, Kankumbi along the Belagavi-Goa road via Chorla and Majalli in Karwar district bordering South Goa.
Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram, who is also in-charge regional commissioner of north Karnataka region including the districts of Belagavi and Karwar, has directed the excise officials to be on their toes and enhance the checking at all the excise check posts at Anmod, Kankumbi and Karwar border in coastal Karnataka.
