Bar Association ‘demands’ separate High Court for Goa

PANAJI

The Bombay High Court at Goa Bar Association, in its meeting held on Friday evening, resolved to demand a separate independent High Court for Goa.

Speaking to The Goan, sources present in the meeting said that a resolution was adopted to have an independent High Court for the state of Goa “since Goa being an independent state” was entitled to have its own High Court.

The resolution also sought that a separate Bar Council be set up for the state of Goa along with the separate high court.

The demand for an independent High Court in Goa is not new and has been intermittently sought over the last decade or so.

However, several Chief Justices of the High Court at Bombay have shot down the idea as being not practical and not necessary since the current setup does not suffer from any major deficiencies.
