Bar owners set deadline for govt to save their business

With no positive signals coming from the government to bail out the beleaguered bar and liquor vendors, agitated bar owners on Tuesday set the government five-day deadline for resolving the issue by April 30 or else, they have threatened to hit the streets.

Discontentment and  anxiety ran large on the faces of the bar owners from Margao and Fatorda  at a meeting of the bar owners held at the Rosary Church hall, Fatorda  on Tuesday with the beleaguered owners accusing the government for not  taking any positive steps to save the liquor business in the wake of the  Supreme court ban on liquor outlets within 500 meters of the National  and state highways.
Many suggested that the bar owners should enforce  a bandh by involving tourism stakeholders including shack owners,  tourist taxi operators, meat, chicken and fish vendors after the set  deadline.
The bar owners accused the government of a divide and rule  policy, saying that the
