MAPUSA: The water supply department of public works has announced restricted water supply for entire Bardez and part of Bicholim taluka for next five days from June 4 onwards.
The department has taken the step in order to replace the filter media at the Assonora water treatment plant, a PWD statement said.
“Water supply will not be totally stopped although supply will be controlled due to the work of replacing the filter media at the Assonora treatment plant,” said R S Naik, Assistant Engineer, PWD at the Assonora treatment plant.
Assuring the consumers, he said, supply of water will be reduced by 5 to 10 mld which is expected not to make a big difference.
A senior PWD official informed that filter media has to be normally replaced every six years. According to the official the filter media at the Assonora treatment plant is being replaced after almost 10 years.
The official further said that it takes minimum eight to nine days to replace a filter media but the contractor appointed to replace it at the plant will complete the process within five days.
Most water treatment plants use filter media in the process of producing drinking water. Different types of filter media are used depending on the raw water quality.
