A minor leak in a key water pipeline at Colvale has turned into a major problem, forcing authorities to shut down supply and affecting large parts of Bardez for the next two days.
The issue involves a 1,000 mm main pipeline near a canal crossing at Colvale. What began as a small leak worsened quickly, prompting the Department of Drinking Water (DDW) to carry out urgent repairs.
According to the Executive Engineer, repair work is currently underway. As a result, water supply will be restricted on April 3 and 4 in most areas of Bardez. Officials said immediate action was needed to prevent further damage and a longer disruption.
Authorities have confirmed that there will be no water supply on Friday. Supply is expected to resume gradually, with water likely to be restored by late Saturday evening after the repairs are completed.
The disruption will affect several areas, including Mapusa, Calangute and Candolim; Guirim, Nerul, Reis Magos and Saligao; Sodiem, Marna and Oxel; Revora, Nadora, Tivim, Camurlim and Colvale; Moira and Bastora; and Bhutkiwado, Aaradi, Vaddem and Carrem.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to use water carefully and make necessary arrangements until normal supply is restored.
