Poriem MLA Deviya Rane has stated that the Nanus Fort will be beautified and protected within six months, adding the long-pending issue of road access to the fort will also be resolved.
She was speaking at a government function at the historic Nanus fort in Sattari to commemorate the Rane revolt against the Portuguese rule in 1852.
Rane laid a wreath on the memorial of the historic Rane revolt and paid homage to the martyrs, Deepaji Rane, Dada Rane, and others, in the presence of Sattari Sub-Divisional Officer Laxmikant Kurtikar, Mamlatdar Dhirendra Banavali, Joint Mamlatdar Vishnu Rane, Valpoi Municipal Chairperson Prasanna Gavas, Bhironda Sarpanch Udaysingh Rane, Deputy Sarpanch Rupali Gaonkar, ZP member Namdev Chari, former deputy speaker Narhari Haldankar, Deepaji Rane, grandson of freedom fighter Deepaji Rane, and others.
Stating that the fort is of great importance for future generations, especially students, Rane emphasised the importance of its beautification and protection.
Rane stated that after discussions with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the process of beautification and protection of the fort will be substantially completed within the next six months.
She also assured that efforts are underway to resolve the access pathway issues to the fort and that the work will be expedited.
Additionally, the MLA stated that with the support of departments concerned, a follow-up will be done to have the Nanus fort area officially declared a heritage site by the government.
“The history of Nanus Fort is a source of inspiration for everyone. In 1852, freedom fighters launched an armed revolution from this fort under the leadership of Deepaji Rane and Dada Rane. This legacy is a matter of immense pride. Every citizen must adopt the ideals of these freedom fighters,” said MLA Rane.
She congratulated the Satari History Conservation Committee for its continuous efforts in preserving the fort for many years.
Earlier while delivering the introductory address, Advocate Shivaji Desai of the Satari History Conservation Committee said many freedom fighters had sacrificed their lives for India’s independence and Goa’s liberation.
To ensure their contributions are remembered and not erased from history, he demanded that the government establish a dedicated Freedom Fighters’ Gallery in the Goa Legislative Assembly, containing detailed information about every freedom fighter.
He informed that a formal memorandum regarding this demand will soon be submitted to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and requested Rane to give special attention to this issue.
The event concluded with students of Khadki Shriram School rendering the patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram’. They were accompanied by Nitesh Desai on harmonium and Chandrakant Naik on tabla.
