Visibly irritated by the question, Parrikar said that he had clarified in the past too, over the issue.
“Why should I respond to someone’s comment? I have given this response on more than one occasion. For so long right from 2012, similar types of statements have been made. We believe in law and we will follow the law,” Parrikar said.
“As far I am concerned, the law will be followed and this is my 10th statement on the same issue. Be very clear. The government is there to ensure that the law is followed if anyone takes law into their hands. These issues are being raised time and again. The media seems to get some sort of joyful pleasure out of these statements. And the person who makes the statement knows that he enjoys wide coverage,” Parrikar said.
“If someone is vegetarian he will say that I am vegetarian.. if someone does not like a particular type of food, he will say I don’t like this food. It is his individual choice. He may try to express his individual choice, whoever it is, I’m not commenting on a particular person. He may be vegan and is propagating that non-veg is not to be eaten. So it is his fundamental right. But if he takes law into his hand to enforce his thinking then we will have to act legally,” Parrikar said.
“As far as I’m concerned, right from 2012 we have taken a very clear stand. The governments are there to ensure governance and therefore follow law absolutely as it is. If anyone tries to take law in his hands he will be dealt with,” Parrikar said.
“It is this government which has banned Muthalik, but the Congress government in Karnataka allows him a free run,” Parrikar said.
When asked whether the VHP leader would be banned in the same way Sri Rama Sene leader Muthalik was banned, Parrikar said: “Government will take appropriate stand as it thinks proper, i.e. Collector has been empowered to do that. They have been banning Muthalik because he threatened to come here. The day someone else decides to come here and do a hate campaign we will do the same thing,” Parrikar said.
