MARGAO
The Fatorda police have mulled a crackdown on beggars and vagabonds found loitering around the Holy Spirit Church and the Old Market area of the city.

Citizens have complained that many beggars and migrants without shelter have been loitering around the Holy Spirit Church square and along the footpaths in recent times, more so after the neighbouring Margao police launched a crackdown on migrants and beggars occupying the Margao municipal garden benches.

Against the backdrop of the vandalizing incident reported at the Holy Spirit Church late Sunday, the Fatorda police have now decided to rein in on the beggars and the migrants sans home and send them to the designated shelter homes as per the rules in force.

Fatorda Police station in-charge, PI Kapil Nayak, informed that the Director of Municipal Administration Dr Tariq Thomas has identified homes for the homeless and beggars. “We are examining how to go about the process”, he said, adding that the police will ensure that no beggar or the homeless loiter around the church and the Old Market area.
