Intensifying its campaign against illicit liquor and drugs, Belagavi police on Friday busted an interstate drug racket and have seized 1.15 kgs of opium valued at Rs 20 lakh.
Three persons with alleged links to the drug mafia from Goa, Rajasthan and other states have been arrested in this connection.
This comes barely days after the Belagavi police seized Goa liquor worth Rs 14 lakh which was illegally being transported.
Briefing media persons, Commissioner of Police Dr K Thayagarajan said the Cyber Economic Offices and Narcotics (CEN) police team on Friday raided two places in North and South Belagavi where drugs estimated at Rs 20 lakh were stocked.
Police raided a shop in Honga village along the NH4 and a house in Rani Chennamma Nagar in South Belagavi.
Police Inspector (CEN) B R Gaddekar and team conducted the raids and arrested three persons, Barquatkhan Dillakhan of Joganatti, Kamlesh Baniwala of Hubballi and Sarvan alias Sarvararam Asuram Bishnoi of Rani Chennamma Nagar.
Dr Thyagarajan said both Kamlesh and Savraram are fabricators by profession.
PI Gaddekar said the three persons have alleged links to the drug mafia from Goa, Rajasthan and other states.
Police Commissioner Dr Thiyagarajan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Dr Vikram Amathe and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Chandrashekhar Neelgar congratulated the CEN police team for busting the interstate smuggling racket. Police investigations are in progress.
