Belagavi district police have nabbed three youth on charges of gangraping and blackmailing two teenage girls. After the sexual assault, the three accused were forcing and blackmailing two girls to accompany them to Goa.

The crime which occurred near Savasuddi village in Raibag taluka in the first week of January has caused furore among villagers.

Acting swiftly after the complaint was lodged, the police arrested three accused, Abhishek, Adil Jamadar, and Kautuk Badiger, the driver of the vehicle involved.

Briefing media persons, Superintendent of Police Dr Bhimashankar Guled revealed that Abhishek had established contact with one of the victims through Instagram. He persuaded her to join him on a trip to Saundatti, gaining her trust.

The victim invited her friend, and together they headed to the bus station, where Abhishek met them and took them in a car, accompanied by the two other accused.

“The girls were taken to a remote area near Savasuddi village and were gangraped. The accused recorded videos of the crime on their mobile phones and later used the footage to blackmail the victims, pressuring them to accompany them to Goa. The girls then confided with their families about the incident after which a complaint was lodged at Harugeri police station on January 13,” SP Guled said.
