Benaulim and Davorlim VPs say no to Bhumiputra Bill

MARGAO
The gram sabhas of Benaulim and Davorlim village panchayats on Sunday adopted resolutions for the scrapping of the controversial Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021.

At the Benaulim gram sabha chaired by acting Sarpanch Nilesh Prabhudesai, the meeting adopted a resolution for the scrapping of the Bhumiputra Bill, saying the bill will not serve any purpose when there are already legislations in place to take care of niz Goemkars.

A similar resolution was adopted at the Davorlim gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Siddi Malvankar with members calling for its total scrapping.

The Davorlim gram sabha also discussed at the meeting the burning issue of garbage and the setting up of MRF unit in the village to take care of the garbage.

Meanwhile, the Benaulim gram sabha discussed the issue of the plan to discharge treated water from the Colva sewerage plant in the river Sal at the Khareband bridge.

Member Royla Fernandes raised the issue at the meeting as she expressed concern over the plan to release the treated sewage water from Colva into the river Sal. She pointed out that the water may cause damage to the river ecosystems if the sewage is discharged without proper treatment.

She also demanded to know why the treated sewage water is not being put to use by the government departments for gardening.

The acting Sarpanch Nilesh Prabhudesai said the panchayat would take details from the PWD, sewerage department, saying the issue can be discussed and deliberated at a meeting.
