Wednesday saw Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas and former MLA Churchill Alemao’s nephew Warren descending on Colva with their supporters as the PWD launched hot mixing of the roads which were dug up to lay the underground sewerage line.
If Warren along with his team had been making his presence felt at the road hot mixing works post-election result to convey a message that the works were sanctioned during Churchill’s tenure, MLA Venzy descended at Colva to send a message loud and clear that the road hot mixing has finally started after he followed up with the PWD and the sewerage department.
After launching the works in the presence of Colva Sarpanch Johnson Coelho and others, Venzy told the media that the people of Goa deserve better roads after undergoing hardships as the road was dug up to lay the underground line.
“They have got their rightful due. We have assembled here and we as one team will unitedly usher in the development of the village”, he said.
Incidentally, the MLA pointed out that roads in the Benaulim constituency are much better compared to other constituencies.
Colva Sarpanch Johnson said the road hot mixing work has started due to constant follow up by the MLA, while Saturnino Rodrigues said no one can claim credit for the road hot mixing as the government is a continuous process.
Warren Alemao, however, told the media that the hot mixing work was sanctioned during Churchill’s tenure at Rs 3.88 crore.
“Around 80 per cent of the roads in Benaulim have been done by Churchill. They are the best as compared to other constituencies. I am happy that the same MLA who had gone to the people saying there is lack of development has today accepted that Benaulim roads are better compared to other areas”, Warren said.
When it was pointed out to him that government is a continuous process, Warren shot back saying: “No doubt, the government is a continuous process, but the present MLA had accused Churchill of zero development in Benaulim during the recently held elections”.
