A Bengaluru youth aged 29 was arrested by Goa Police’s Cybercrime Cell after a dramatic pursuit and a trap they set up in association with the victim of his online bullying, sexual harassment and extortion bid. Mohan Raj V, was arrested in Bengaluru.
Over two months ago, Mohan Raj, had established contact online with the victim, a woman from Chimbel, and lured her into appearing for a fake online interview for a job in an Abu Dhabi bank with a high pay package.
The victim attended the online interview via a video call in the process of which Mohan Raj and his associates allegedly coerced her to undress. The video was recorded and screenshots were also taken.
Using it, Mohan Raj, in due course began blackmailing the victim and demanding sexual favours even asking her to meet him in Bengaluru with the threat that he will make her video and screenshots viral.
On April 30, the woman approached the police and lodged her complaint explaining the online ordeal she was going through for nearly two months.
The team of the Cybercrime Cell then worked in tandem with the victim and planned to trap him. They got the victim to agree to a meeting in Bengaluru with Mohan Raj and travelled with her there.
When he came to meet the victim, the police swooped down and arrested him.
According to a press release issued by the Goa Police’s Cybercrime Cell, Mohan Raj has confessed to the crime. He has been slapped with sections 354A (sexual harassment) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code besides sections 66E and 67A of the Information Technology Act.
