Director-General of Police Indradev Shukla has said the purpose of a police station is not merely to prevent and detect crimes but also to ensure the safety of residents in that locality.
He was speaking after inaugurating the new premises of the Saligao Police Station in the presence of DIG Parmaditya, SP Shobit Saxena, SP Sweta Singh, SP Serafin Dias, DySPs Vishvesh Karpe, Nelson Alburquerque, Udai Parab and Prabhod Shirvoikar, Police Inspectors Tukaram Chavan, Projyot Phadte and Mahesh Gadekar, Saligao Sarpanch Lafira Gomes and panch members of Saligao and Sangolda.
DGP Shukla said the Saligao Police Station was set up in 2014, but since it did not have premises of its own, the Saligao Police Station was housed in the building of the Calangute police station.
“There were persistent demands from the locals to shift this police station to new premises. The Saligao Police Station has now been shifted to premises located at Saligao plateau, which has been repaired and renovated,” said DGP Shukla.
“The staff strength at this new police station will gradually be increased while the required computer facilities will be provided to enable the police staff to function efficiently.”
“Pilerne Industrial Estate is situated close to the Saligao Police Station and it will be easier for the police station to maintain vigil in and around the industrial estate,” he added.
