Housing Minister and Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar has stated that the Betim-Nerul road would be widened and hot-mixed shortly, to cater to growing traffic along the route.
Salgaonkar was speaking at Nerul after launching the work to beautify the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary in the presence of Nerul Sarpanch Piedade Almeida, Parish Priest Fr Bolmax Pereira and panch members.
Stating that the condition of Betim“Nerul road has deteriorated, Salgaonkar said there had been a demand from vehicle owners to repair the road.
“This road is very narrow and needs to be
widened. There has been tremendous increase in traffic along this road in recent years and hence, this road will be widened and hotmixed.
The tender for this work will be floated shortly,” said Salgaonkar.
Seeking to dispel rumours that compound walls would be demolished to widen the road,” the minister said: “Rest assured that no compound wall will be demolished, but wherever possible the road will be widened by half metre on both sides.”
Salgaonkar further said the chapel is being beautified by the RDA at a cost of Rs 9 lakh. Pavers will be laid around the chapel and a badminton court will be made available for the youth.”
“In ward 1, tiles will be laid on the pathways at a cost of Rs 16 lakh as hot-mixing of pathways is not possible. Most internal roads in Nerul have been hot-mixed, except for two roads at Bhatwado and Tittowado. These roads also will be hot-mixed shortly.”
“Similarly, a community hall at Owleswar temple in Firguem Bhat will be constructed soon,” said Salgaonkar.
Nerul Sarpanch Piedade Almeida welcomed the gathering, while Dy Sarpanch Prakash Hoble later proposed the vote of thanks.
