MLA directs departments to clean drains, desilt rivers and stay on alert to avoid repeat of past flooding

A joint meeting of all departments will be held soon to finalise the functioning of the Emergency Control Room.
BICHOLIM
With the monsoon approaching and flood risks rising in Bicholim, MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye has directed departments to take immediate preventive action. The Water Resources Department, municipal council and Emergency Control Room have been told to clean rivers and drains, remove silt and ensure funds are available.
Dr Shetye said the area faces flooding every year, making advance planning vital. He noted that timely action last year helped prevent major damage and similar coordination is expected now. A joint meeting will soon finalise the flood prevention plan and Emergency Control Room operations.
Heavy rainfall, high tides and dam water releases can quickly trigger flooding. Two years ago, sudden water discharge caused major damage. Authorities have been asked to stay on alert and begin urgent cleaning in areas such as Bicholim river, Mulgao, Advalpal, Bhatwadi and Noda, along with building protective walls and other safeguards.
