BICHOLIM

The usual hustle and bustle in Bicholim on the weekly bazaar day was missing in Bicholim town, as the Bandh brought most activity to a halt on Wednesday.

The markets, shops, banks and other institutions were closed and even the Bicholim Industrial Estate was also closed following the strike. Attendance in most government offices was also poor.

While private buses were off the roads, KTC buses were plying along different routes and people struggled to catch the KTC buses to their destinations.

Till noon, not a single vendor was present in the market and later some vegetable, fruit and other vendors were open in the market but the shops remained closed.

In Sakhali, some shops, pharmacies and petrol pumps remained open, while most shops and establishments were shut down.

Mining workers gathered at the Shivaji Maidan site and workers claimed that the bandh in Bicholim was a great success, adding that the government should take the initiative to resolve the issue of mining workers as early as possible.

According to Bicholim Police Inspector Sanjay Dalvi no untoward incident was reported in the area, as police teams were posted in different parts of Bicholim and

Sakhali towns.
