A scooter rider was seriously injured in an unusual three-vehicle accident at Redi Ghat on the Valpoi–Honda road on Wednesday afternoon, after a car driver suddenly braked to avoid a snake crossing the road.
According to reports, a car (GA 03 P 7904) was travelling from Valke towards Sankhali, with a goods truck (GA 04 T 8244) following behind. A scooter was also moving in the same direction. The rider first overtook the truck and then tried to overtake the Swift car.
At that moment, a snake crossed the road, prompting the Swift driver to brake suddenly.
Due to the sudden braking, the scooter crashed into the rear of the car. The rider fell onto the road, and within seconds, the goods truck behind ran over him, causing serious injuries.
Local residents rushed to the spot and alerted the 108 ambulance service. The injured rider was first taken to the Sankhali sub-district hospital.
As his condition was critical, he was later shifted to Goa Medical College for further treatment.
All three vehicles involved were badly damaged in the accident. Notably, several accidents have been reported on this stretch over the past four days.
A car had overturned at the same spot on Tuesday, raising concerns about road safety. Authorities and locals have urged motorists to drive with extra caution on this route.
