Big push for development in Benaulim as works launched

Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Friday launched developmental works in Benaulim constituency at an estimated cost of Rs 24.99 crore. The works are expected to be completed within the next two years.   

The works, which will be executed by the Goa State infrastructure Development Corporation, include the development and beautification of the Khareband and Tollebandh junctions, besides the widening and elevation of the Tolleabandh-Khareband road to prevent flooding during the monsoon. 

The road from Maria hall to Benaulim beach will be developed, widened and beautified under the project. Besides, the ancestral footpath leading to St Michael Church will also be developed by construction of retaining walls and raising the path to avoid flooding.   

Addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone for the project in the presence of GSIDC Chairman Deepak Pauskar, Benaulim Sarpanch Diella Fernandes, Seraulim Sarpanch Domingos Fernandes, Orlim Sarpanch Tamika Da Silva and others, Churchill said the development works will take care of the long-pending requirements of Benaulim constituency.  

“During my tenure as PWD Minister, I had taken up three major bridges for construction and managed to complete two bridges, the Assolna-Cavelossim bridge and the Telaulim-Varca bridge,” he said while exuding confidence that the Sinquetim-Benaulim bridge too will be completed at the earliest. He also promised to take up hot-mixing of all major roads in Benaulim in the New Year. 

He also asked the GSIDC to build steps and also desilt the Odlem Tollem to facilitate immersion of Lord Ganesh idols.   

In his address, Pauskar said though the contractor is scheduled to complete the works in two years time, he exuded confidence these will be completed within a year and half. 

He exuded confidence that these works, once completed, will change the face of Benaulim constituency within the next two years.   

GSIDC general manager, Jude Carvalho, said the development works in Benaulim constituency also include desilting of existing water bodies and water nullahs.
