Biomethanation plants: Bids opened, three evince interest

MARGAO
Around three bidders have placed their bids to take up work on the installation of the two bio-methanation plants in the jurisdiction of the Margao Municipal Council.

The bids were opened on Wednesday in the presence of three bidders by Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes and other officials. Since the bidders have now raised pre-bid queries, these have been forwarded to the Director of Municipal Administration.

The MMC had e-tendered the two bio-methanation plants of five tonnes per day in order to address the burning issue of waste disposal. While Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes is on record to state that the two plants will be set up as part of the pilot project, the fate of the seven bio-methanation plants proposed and approved by the outgoing Goa Forward-backed Goa Forward party remains unknown.

Of the two bio-methanation plants, the MMC has plans to install one plant at the SGPDA market and the other at Sonsodo.

“Since these two plants are being executed as part of the pilot project, we will assess their performance, before the civic body takes a call whether to go in for more of these,” the Chief Officer said.

The MMC has already forward the proposal approved by the outgoing council in favour of the seven biomethanation plants, but the civic body has to date not received any communique nor any approval from the DMA’s office.
