A herd of bison damaged the orchards of Sakharam Desai and Amitkumar Desai at Brahmakarmali village in Sattari.
According to information, a herd of bison entered the plantation at night after breaking through the strong stone fencing surrounding the property. Once inside, the animals created havoc and caused widespread destruction.
The bison uprooted and destroyed banana plants and trampled newly planted areca nut saplings, completely damaging them. The orchard, developed through years of hard work, was devastated within a few hours, leading to severe financial loss for Desai.
Sakharam Desai informed that Amitkumar Desai’s plantation also suffered damage in the same incident.
Incidents of wild animal intrusion have been increasing in this area, leaving farmers distressed.
“We work day and night to nurture our plantations, but wild animals are destroying our hard-earned livelihood,” expressed Sakharam Desai.
Local farmers and villagers have appealed to the Forest Department to carry out an immediate panchnama, provide proper compensation for the losses incurred, and implement effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
