BJP candidate Anita Thorat was on Saturday officially declared elected unopposed as the Sancoale ZP member.
Thorat was handed over the certificate after the withdrawal of nominations on Saturday from the returning officer and Deputy Collector Paresh Faldesai in the presence of Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho, Mormugao Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu, MMC Chief Officer Gaurish Shankhwalkar and a large number of BJP supporters.
Thorat had been elected unopposed as the Sancoale ZP member after the Congress candidate failed to file her nomination on the last day.
Later speaking to reporters, Thorat said her victory should be credited to Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho.
Godinho said Thorat was the first ZP candidate to open the BJP account and was confident that BJP would lead both in North and South Goa.
“This is not an ordinary victory, but the setting of a trend even for the 2022 elections as well. This is the victory of all karyakartas and workers,” said Godinho.
“An opposition is required but if the opposition is running away from the field we can’t do much about it. This victory shows how strong the BJP is in Mormugao and it is here to stay,” said Godinho.
“Since the Congress could not field a candidate, it is trying to make baseless allegations and misguiding people that we hijacked their candidate. But the fact is that Congress is finished and their leadership is gone for a toss.”
“The picture is clear and Congress can try as much and talk anything to misguide the people but nothing will happen as people have realised that it is only the BJP that can take up developmental in across the State and country.”
