MARGAO
South Goa district Congress Chief Joe Dias has said the Supreme Court verdict on the municipal elections is an endorsement of the vision of the first Chief Minister of Goa Bhausaheb Bandodkar and then Opposition Leader Dr Jack Sequeira.
He further said the judgment is a slap on the face of all those who want to carry forward the legacy of former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
“Former Chief Minister Bhausaheb Bandodkar always worked hard to educate the Goans, especially those from the OBC, SC & ST communities by setting up schools in every village of Goa. His vision was to empower the women in the State. Dr Jack Sequeira always fought to protect the identity of Goa,” he said.
On the other hand, Joe said the BJP after coming to power under the Leadership of then CM late Manohar Parrikar always tried to suppress the voice of the Bahujan Samaj, SC & ST and also made efforts to keep women away from their active participation in politics and social work.
The present government under CM Pramod Sawant who was handpicked by late Parrikar as his political heir continued to carry forward the same agenda which reflected in the ward reservations in five municipalities, he added.
He said the BJP has always tried to destroy the identity of Goa and their actions are reflected in the highhandedness shown by the government in three linear projects, railway double tracking, Mhadei water dispute, IIT at Sattari and public hearing on GCZMP.
He said the SC verdict has completely exposed the anti-Bahujan Samaj and anti-women agenda of the BJP which was initiated by former CM late Parrikar.
It is high time that the BJP realises that people’s voice is supreme in a democracy and it is duty-bound to hear it, he added.
