The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the lead is bracing up to organise a grand Amit Shah show of strength claiming over 25,000 will attend the public meeting slated to be held at Farmagudi, Ponda on Sunday.
“A 25,000-strong crowd is expected at the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s public meeting at Farmagudi on April 16,” said Sawant who attended a BJP core committee meeting to discuss organisational matters related to the Shah meet which is part of the party’s 2024 Lok Sabha campaign.
Shah as part of the campaign is visiting four States this weekend “ West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Goa “ aimed at toning up the party’s election machinery.
He will arrive in Goa from Maharashtra and address the meet at Ponda.
Sawant, meanwhile said, the party is targeting to win the South Goa Lok Sabha seat again which they had lost in 2019 when current MP Francisco Sardinha of Congress defeated their sitting MP, Narendra Sawaikar.
Sawant, also visited the Farmagudi venue where he reviewed the preparations for Sunday’s Shah public meet. Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, former MLA Damu Naik and some other party functionaries were also present.
The choice of Ponda as the venue for Shah’s meeting is significant as the BJP won three of the four assembly segments in the taluka “ Ponda, Shiroda and Priol. The fourth “ Marcaim “ was won by MGP’s Ramkrishna Dhavalikar who is now an ally.
All four Ponda MLAs have been inducted in the cabinet and three of these segments “ Ponda, Shiroda and Marcaim “ are part of the South Goa Lok Sabha seat.
