PANAJI: The Crime Branch has detained four individuals allegedly involved in the shooting of Shrinivas Nayak, director of the Neo Majestic casino in Porvorim. Police said the main accused remains absconding and that further details are expected to be disclosed soon.
Crime Branch teams had been conducting investigations in Mumbai and Karnataka over the past few days before detaining the four suspects. Formal arrest procedures are currently underway, while the shooters have been identified but are yet to be apprehended.
On August 28, around 8.47 pm, Nayak was fired upon inside the Neo Majestic casino premises. His security guards returned fire in self-defence. No one was injured in the exchange of fire, but the incident caused a major stir.
Following the shooting, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant handed over the investigation to the Crime Branch. CCTV footage captured two individuals firing at Nayak and later fleeing towards a two-wheeler.
Police are interrogating the suspects to gather further details and have identified the individuals who allegedly carried out the shooting. Although the shooters have not yet been traced, the search for them is underway. The Crime Branch has expressed confidence that they will be arrested soon.
