CANACONA
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee general secretaries and Congress leaders in Canacona on Thursday
insisted that while the BJP had the capacity to buy any amount of Congress MLAs, it could never buy the voters loyal to the Congress party.
Janardhan Bhandari hit out at the BJP for capturing the Congress MLAs.
“Congress as a party of the people is not at all at any loss, given the purchase of 10 of its 15 MLAs by the BJP. If the BJP feel they have the money power, let them show
by purchasing the Congress voters. The BJP has accumulated enough in the few years of their governance to purchase MLAs from other
parties.”
Bhandari insisted that the BJP would never stand a chance to finish off the Congress party, as it is a party of the people.
“They won’t stand a chance, at least here in Goa. The Congress party belongs to its voters and certainly not the MLAs. Goenkars will never allow this to happen,” he said.
Commenting on Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes being part of the 10-member Congress MLAs joining the BJP, Bhandari said: “Our Canacona MLA
Isidore Fernandes has gone to BJP for his better career prospects, which he knows best. He has already tasted BJP’s treatment and it seems he liked that taste at that time and so, he has
again gone there now,” Bhandari said.
GPCC Secretary and another Congress leader from Canacona Mahadev Desai said: I wish the
Canacona MLA the best, but one thing has been proven and that is, BJP is incapable of getting their MLAs elected on its party strength. This bankruptcy is for the people to know about that party which they claim to be a party with a difference.”
Attempts to contact Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, who is camping with other MLAs in Delhi, were unsuccessful. However, Fernandes had told The Goan earlier this week that he enjoyed close ties with the
BJP and had aspirations to become a minister. “Like any human being, especially a politician, I too
have an ambition and my ambition is to become a minister. If I gets this opportunity, I won’t look back as by becoming a minister,
I will be more equipped to serve my constituents. Right now people are blaming me for not doing enough on the development
front in my constituency. I can promote development of Canacona, if I become a minister.”
