Several arrangements for the famous Vasco Saptah were reviewed at a special joint-meeting with various officials. Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Nandadeep Raut chaired the meeting, which was also attended by MMC Chief Officer Gaurish Shankhwalkar and other officials.
Speaking to reporters, Shankhwalkar said the meeting was a preliminary meeting considering the Saptah festival involved participation from various departments like police, traffic police, fire department, PWD ,MPT and other companies.
“Saptah committee members who were present discussed various requirements needed during the festival. We had preliminary discussions and informed the officials about the cooperation required. The police will have a minimum 180 staff deployed and similarly, the traffic police were informed about the arrangements during the festival.”
“We informed the police to have watchtowers and install CCTV cameras at various locations. We also informed the MPT and oil tanking companies that they would not be allowed movement of heavy vehicles on Saptah day.”
Shankhwalkar said the Traffic Police was asked to identify places for sufficient parking and the PWD had been informed
to repair the roads. “We have informed the electricity department to get some damaged lights replaced or repaired and the sewage department has been informed to give connections to portable toilets that will be installed at various places. All major decisions regarding how many stalls and other aspects will be discussed during the council meeting on July 12,” said Shankhwalkar.
When contacted, MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut said he had taken a review meeting for the upcoming Saptah festival.
