PANAJI

Referring to the report in ‘The Goan’ on Thursday about BJP MLAs being worried with the Church opposing the CAA, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has said that this worry has more to do with the MLAs’ own future political prospects rather than any genuine concern for the people.

AAP Woman Cell leader Patricia Fernandes said in a press release that when all along people had been agitating in opposition to these discriminatory legislations, none of these BJP MLAs had expressed any reservations about the hardships the people would be facing in the name of proof of citizenship. She said that the sudden obsession to destroy the secular fabric of the country was in accordance with the BJP’s long-term agenda to undo Constitution of India and strike root of secularism.

“These so called Catholic BJP MLAs instead of telling their Government to side with the people even went ahead and mobilised people through the usual foul means, to attend the BJP sponsored pro-CAA rally. It’s only now when they sense danger due to involvement of priests in taking lead to rally people that they sense political trouble for them leading them to open their mouths,” said Fernandes, cautioning people to be aware of such people who have no interest of public welfare in mind.

Scheduled Tribes organisation
labels CAA  as ‘anti-tribal’
PANAJI: The organisation of Scheduled Tribes Gakuved has opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act, National Register of Citizen, National Population Register (NPR), terming it as anti-tribal.  Gakuved executive committee member Ramkrishna Jalmi in a press conference said that 95 per cent of the ST community members will not be able to produce documents to prove their citizenship.
“After the Tenancy law was enacted in 1976 till date many ST families could not produce the documents for claiming the houses. Around 5,000 cases are pending before the Mamlatdar’s court. 95 per cent of the ST community members will not be able to produce documents to prove their citizenship”, said Jalmi.   This way we have to lose our farms, hilly lands which is in possession of STs”, he added. Jalmi added that though the CAA is termed as anti-Muslim it will have impact on SC and ST population too. BJP-RSS people have hatched a conspiracy to take away our citizenship which will follow with property rights, he alleged.
