BJP hijacking people's mandate, says Sardesai

PANAJI
Stating that the people voted against the BJP in the recent panchayat polls, Goa Forward president Vijay Sardesai alleged that the BJP was hijacking the mandate of the people by claiming that its party-backed candidates won.
The statement comes against the backdrop of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant laying claim that the majority of the panchayats are won by BJP-backed candidates.
“In the recently held Assembly elections, 67% of the voters voted against the BJP. Now, in three months has the Chief Minister become so popular that he lays claim that majority of the panchayats are of BJP,” Sardesai quipped.
“This is not democracy but hijacking of the mandate which the BJP has done in the past. The newly elected panchas are lured in the form of packages. Most of the panchayats side with the ruling government as they want to bring in development in their villages but that does not mean that they were backed by the BJP,” he added.

Sardesai alleged that there is competition between the CM and Vishwajeet Rane to show how many seats they have won in their respective constituencies.
