On the last leg of the ongoing Karyakarta Melava, the saffron juggernaut entered the minority stronghold of Velim on Tuesday and will have similar programs in Nuvem and Benaulim on Wednesday – the three minority-dominated constituencies, where the BJP is yet to taste electoral success till date.

The message from the BJP leadership to party rank and file, however, was loud and clear – if the lotus could bloom in Navelim in 2022, there is no question why the party flag cannot fly high in Velim in the 2027 Assembly election.

Velim, Benaulim and Nuvem are the three Assembly seats in Salcete where the BJP has come a cropper in every election. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, these three Assembly segments, including Nuvem, represented by Congress-turned-BJP MLA, Minister Alexio Sequeira, stood like a rock behind the Congress to give huge and unassailable leads for the Congress paving the way for the election of Captain Viriato Fernandes as the South Goa MP.

In fact, party leaders, be it BJP state president Damu Naik, Organising Secretary Saravnand Bhagat and former MP Narendra Sawaikar motivated party workers from Velim constituency to take a cue from the party’s success in Navelim in 2022 where the lotus had bloomed for the first time ever.

In their address to the party workers, Damu, Narendra and Sarvanand reminded the workers from Velim constituency how the party rank and file worked unitedly to ensure the success of party candidate Ulhas Tuemkar in Navelim in 2022.

“If the BJP could win in Navelim, there is no reason why the party cannot have a MLA in Velim in 2027”, Sarvanand Bhagat said.

Ex-MP Narendra Sawaikar told the workers to put in hard work on the ground for the party’s success in the Assembly election.

In his address, State BJP President Damu Naik underscored the need for the party workers to take the government schemes of prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to the doorsteps of the people of Velim constituency.

“Taking the schemes to the doorsteps of the people is one way to explain the party’s work and win their confidence.  There are so many schemes which has been introduced by the government at the centre and in Goa. The people should know how the BJP government in Delhi and in Goa is working for the interests of the common man”, Damu said.

Wednesday will see BJP Karyakarta Melavas in Benaulim  and Nuvem Assembly constituencies, with party leaders in private saying the melavas will help the party strengthen its position in these minority dominated areas.
