BJP loses control of Socorro panchayat

PORVORIM
The BJP lost control of the Socorro panchayat, when Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte backed panchas Anil Pednekar and Reshma Morajkar were elected unopposed as sarpanch and deputy sarpanch respectively.

Six panch members, Anil Pednekar, Sandeep Manjrekar, Sanjay Pednekar, Rajendra Parsekar, Maya Keni and Reshma Morajkar, were present at the meeting, while the five other panchas were absent.

The Mapusa Block Development Office had deputed Shushant Shetye as presiding officer to conduct the election proceedings and he was assisted by Panchayat Secretary Satish Gawas.

Since only one nomination was received for the post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch, the presiding officer Pednekar and Morajkar elected unopposed to their respective posts.

The posts of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch had fallen vacant as the then sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar and then deputy sarpanch Deepali Satardekar were ousted in a no-confidence by 6-0 in the 11-member panchayat on October 5.
