The BJP State president Sadanand Tanavade said that BJP is not in favour to hold municipal elections on party lines and the party has conveyed its view to the BJP-ruled government.

“We have told that the elections of municipal bodies should be held on non-party lines as per the tradition of last elections. Government has to take a call on it,” said Tanavade.

Tanawade said that BJP many leaders including some legislators wanted to hold municipal elections on party lines but holding elections on party lines is not practical.

“Some wards are too small of hardly 700 voters and among BJP workers there are many aspirants so if more than 2 BJP workers contest then a problem may arise,” said Tanavade while logically explaining the party’s stand.

BJP legislator Atanasio Monserrate has earlier expressed his view that municipal elections should be held on party lines.

Meanwhile, Tanavade said that the inclusion of Taleigao in Panaji corporation jurisdiction is not possible before the election as the election is supposed to be held in the next three months.
