Call for Opposition unity outside Assembly too

MAPUSA
Enthused with the united Opposition effort in the just concluded winter session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai said people of Goa want forces inimical to BJP to come together not only in the House but also outside it.

He also said winds of change were blowing within the Congress and hoped the grand old party manages to put its house in order at the earliest if at all it wants to defeat the “reckless” BJP-led government in the State.

“There is a popular sentiment among the people that like-minded parties should unite. We should respect the sentiment of the people. What we did in the Assembly, we want to repeat it out. We are getting committed to an alliance of the people which we call Team Goa against Team BJP to save Goa,” Sardesai said.

The GFP chief was addressing the media after paying obeisance to Shree Bodgeshwar in Mapusa. Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar, Siolim MLA Vinoda Paliencar, GFP Working President Kiran Kandolkar, Vice President Durgadas Kamat and other party leaders were also present.

Continuing, Sardesai alleged that the BJP-led government has steamrolled some bills in the just concluded assembly paving the way for open loot in the election year.

“Such government should not come to power and they are in the seat of power only because of us. Today, we prayed to Lord Bodgeshwar asking forgiveness for the mistake. We have also prayed never to align with the BJP in future, come what may,” he said.

The GFP chief said he has made it very clear that the party wants to join hands with everyone who is committed to fight the BJP. “We are ready to work with anybody and everybody to get rid of the BJP. And it comes with no strings attached,” he said.

“Even if we come together, it is not going to be an easy fight. They (BJP) will do anything and everything to divide us and we should do anything and everything to unite,” he added.

He, however, remained circumspect when asked whether the recent move by the AICC to reconstitute the committees of Goa Pradesh Congress gave him a ray of hope.

“I cannot speak for Congress. But it appears that winds of change are moving in the New Year. Let us wait for things to take final shape. They are in a phase of transition. We wish them well,” he said.
