The party is also wooing farmers and voters in North Karnataka region in wake of the forthcoming general elections to the assembly.
Water Resources Minister Govind Karjol, who on Monday had stated that the work on the project would restart within a month, is heading the congratulations and appreciation rally, the first one of which was held at Parishwad in Khanapur taluka.
A public meeting congratulating Karnataka government and thanking the Centre was held at Parishwad on Wednesday.
The meeting was organised by BJP District Vice President Pramod Kocheri. Top BJP leaders from Belagavi district comprising BJP Rajya Sabha MP Iranna Kadadi, former MLAs Sanjay Patil and Arvind Patil, former MLC Mahantesh Kavatgimath, Vitthal Halgekar and others were present.
Stating the government is committed to completing the work on the project at the earliest Water Resources Minister Karjol blamed the Congress government for delaying the implementation of the project.
“Congress party which ruled at the Centre for 10 years did nothing about implementing the water diversion project, but the BJP government at the Centre have given the clearance within a short period of time. I have directed officials to initiate measures in completing the (Kalsa-Bhandura) project immediately,” said Karjol, congratulating Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai on getting the clearance.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi congratulated the state government for getting the clearance.
“CM Bommai and WRD Minister Karjol continuously persuaded the Centre for the clearance. They also visited Union WRD Minister Shekhawat a number of times pressing the need for the implementation of the project and their hard work was rewarded,” Kadadi said.
Over 500 farmers, including BJP party workers, were present for the programme. A similar programme was held at Bailhongal in the district while similar programmes are planned at important towns in North Karnataka region.
