PANAJI
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday questioned Congress MLA Carlos Ferreira’s silence over the alleged sextortion case.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Panaji, BJP Goa spokesman Giriraj Pai Vernekar countered the Opposition’s personal attacks on Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his family over the alleged jobs-for-cash scam, questioning why the Congress party’s “legal mind” is tight-lipped on the matter.
“One sextortion post has gone viral. A Congress MLA’s son had taken to social media questioning, ‘How many believed the face was morphed? If so, why was the payment made?’ I want to ask why that post has been removed from social media...This is a question raised by the Congress MLA’s son, not the BJP,” Vernekar said.
He further commented on Ferreira’s professional reputation stating Ferreira is known as a big legal mind, “But where is he today? There are allegations, videos and media attention, yet he remains silent. There is an FIR based on his complaint. Is this extortion or a scandal? We need answers.”
The BJP also warned opposition parties of legal action if they continued making “unsubstantiated statements” against the government, CM and his family.
BJP leaders including Minister Subhash Phal Desai and MLAs Sankalp Amonkar and Kedar Naik, also present at the press conference, questioned Congress’ silence on yet another case -- the “Fatorda-to-London investment scam,” which reportedly involved party members.
