Prasad Nadodkar has been elected as the new panchayat member for Ward V of the Nadora Panchayat, securing a decisive win in the bye-election held to fill the vacancy caused by the untimely demise of his brother and former panchayat member, Deepak Nadodkar, also known as Rama.
Prasad emerged victorious with 207 votes, achieving a significant margin of 153 votes over his nearest rival, Rajendra Mandrekar, who garnered just 54 votes. The third candidate, Kundan Kalangutkar, managed only two votes.
The bye-election witnessed a commendable voter turnout, with 87.3% of the electorate casting their votes on Sunday.
The counting of votes took place on Monday at the government complex in Mapusa under the supervision of Bardez Mamlatdar and presiding officer, Anant Malik.
After the final tally, Malik declared Prasad Nadodkar the winner and handed over the official election certificate, marking the conclusion of the electoral process.
The election was held following the sudden demise of Deepak Nadodkar, affectionately known as Rama, who had served the ward diligently.
Prasad, his younger brother, has now stepped into the role, promising to carry forward the legacy of service and dedication left behind by his late sibling.
“This victory is not just mine but a reflection of the trust and support of the people of Ward V. I am committed to continuing the work started by my brother and addressing the needs of our community,” said an emotional Prasad after his win.
Ward V of Nadora panchayat is reserved for candidates from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, ensuring equitable representation within the local governance structure.
