The Bharatiya Janata Party said in a sea of false promises by different parties, it is important to remember that Goa stands unparalleled in executing its vision of women empowerment through sustained groundwork done in the past 10 years.
The part asserted it has consistently created opportunities for all women to excel and thrive. “Our government schemes are tailored to provide government support right from the birth of a girl child, and in every stage of her life,” it observed.
To make its point, the party highlighted Mamta Scheme, which pays Rs 10,000 on the birth of every newborn girl. “The current government has doubled the allocation from the earlier Rs 5000,” it said.
Under the Ladli Laxmi Scheme, upon the marriage of a girl, one lakh rupees is given to the household to ease the financial burden, it stated and added, “This has been provided to 72,943 households across Goa.”
The party said financial assistance of Rs 1500 monthly is provided to housewives from economically weaker sections through the Griha Aadhar Scheme, while single women and widows are provided financial assistance of up to Rs 2500 per month through the Dayanand Social Security Yojana (DSSY). Every month, around 1.2 lakh women are supported through the Griha Aadhaar scheme, and 35,145 widows are supported through the Dayanand Social Security Yojana.
For pregnant women and lactating mothers, a benefit of Rs 15,000 is given through the Matru Vandana Yojana. This has benefitted around 19,515 women in the past four years alone.
To ensure good health for the child and the mother, a Supplementary Nutrition Program is run for mothers, which makes nutritional food available at low prices of up to Rs 9 per day, the BJP said.
The party observed that it wants Goa’s women to become technocrats of the future, and therefore, have invested in building technical institutions. “The tuition fees are kept at a nominal level, to ensure that every woman can live her dream, without financial constraints. Thus, from birth to education to marriage to old age, every woman is supported by our government “ by designing good schemes and implementing them effectively,” it asserted.
The results of our collective efforts have clearly borne fruit, it claimed and said Goa now has one of the highest women literacy rates in the country at 92.2 per cent.
In terms of financial empowerment, 88 per cent of Goa’s women operate their own bank accounts and 91.2 per cent have their own mobile phones.
Further, 96.5 per cent of households now use clean fuel for cooking, which has tremendously improved the lives of Goan women. Goa has not only promised, but delivered exceedingly well to empower women and enable them to achieve greater heights. Since it is election season, many political parties see fit to make false promises, it added.
