Launching a scathing attack on Ponda's MGP MLA and coalition partner Lavu Mamledar, the Ponda block of Bharatiya Janata Party claimed he was an incapable MLA who had failed to undertake developmental works in the constituency.
BJP Block President and Ponda councillor Vishwanath Dalvi along with other members on Wednesday addressed news conference in the office of South Goa MP Adv Narendra Sawaikar.
Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Vice Chairperson Shantaram Kolvekar, Councillor Sunil Desai, Yashwant Khedekar, Digamber Jalmi and others were present at the meeting.
Mamledar on Tuesday had supported the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) workers' act of burning the effigy of Sawaikar over his remarks on RSS Goa chief Subhash Velingkar.
Dalvi said they condemned the act of MGP workers of burning effigy of their leader. “Mamledar is part of the coalition government. How he can support such acts without knowing the facts,” asked Dalvi.
Kolvekar said Mamledar had caused confusion among the vendors over the Sopo tax and the PMC had lost revenue in the process.
“He even failed to bring projects and implement them in Ponda,” Kolvekar said.
Sunil Desai said Mamledar as the Ponda MLA had failed to undertake developmental works in the constituency.
“Rather than accusing us of creating hurdles in developmental works, he should follow up on his works.”
“BJP is not discriminating against anyone. When the works of opposition MLAs are being carried out smoothly, why there is a problem only with Mamledar,” asked Desai.
It may be recalled that work on the sewage network at Shantinagar was stopped after Sunil Desai had informed PMC Chief Officer Johnson Fernandes that the work was illegal. A livid Mamledar then accused some councillors of acting as “goondas”.
