Condemning the burning of an effigy of Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Damu Naik and demand for an apology by the Congress and Goa Forward for reportedly terming Goans abroad as frogs, the Fatorda BJP unit has said that vested political interests are trying to misinterpret and twist Damu’s statement to damage his popularity amongst the people of Fatorda and Salcete.
The BJP workers pointed out that the Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and Goa Forward President Vijai Sardesai should answer why they did not demand an apology from senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane when the latter had stated in the Goa Legislative Assembly that Goans working in London are cleaning toilets.
Addressing the media, party general secretary Pramod Naik said no attempts by the Congress and Goa Forward would succeed in painting Damu in bad light amongst the people of Fatorda and Salcete.
“There are some politicians who are afraid of Damu’s soaring popularity not just in Fatorda, but in Salcete. These people cannot digest Damu’s Covid work without any bias and hence are misinterpreting statements to target the former MLA,” Pramod said.
Taking the battle to the opposition camp, Pramod sought to know why the Congress and Goa Forward did not seek an apology from Congress leader Pratapsing Rane when the latter had stated on the floor of the Assembly that Goans working in London are cleaning toilets.
“Those demanding apology should explain why they did not tender an apology for making a racist comment on former Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar or for making gestures at fisherwomen at the SGPDA retail market,” Pramod said.
