The unauthorized blocking of a road in Carona dominated the proceedings of the Aldona gram sabha on Sunday.
Several gram sabha members criticized the action of unscrupulous persons in blocking the road.
A gram sabha member, Cosme Fernandes demanded police complaint against unknown persons for dumping mud in the middle of the road and blocking it for vehicular traffic.
People use the road as a shortcut to proceed to Calvim.
Sarpanch Ursula D’Souza informed that some locals from the area requested her not to clear the blocked road, as a number of vehicles prefer to use the road. The locals also said many accidents take place on the stretch and often the locals from the area have to shift the injured to hospitals, she added.
“Accidents take place on many roads. Does that mean all such roads should be blocked? Is this the right way of finding a solution to a problem,” countered Tio D’Souza, another gram sabha member.
Finally, the sarpanch assured to write to the department concerned to remove the dump from the road and open it for traffic.
She also said steps will be taken by the panchayat to find if there was any possibility to install speed breakers on the road.
Members also questioned the panchayat why provision for garbage clearance was made on different heads in the budget.
In the budget, the provision for garbage clearance was divided into plastic, dry, waste, etc.
Members also informed the sarpanch that garbage collection was not happening on time.
