All the 23 accused persons arrested in the fake gold loan case registered at the Cuncolim police station pertaining to the Bank of India branches at Cuncolim, Velim and Chinchinim, have been granted bail by the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao on Monday.
The accused persons have been ordered to be released on furnishing a bail of Rs 10,000 with one surety in the like amount. The court has further directed the 23 accused persons to report to the Cuncolim police station for the purpose of investigations and not to tamper with the evidence.
The Cuncolim police had registered three separate FIRs in respect of the fake yellow metal mortgaged as genuine by the accused to obtain loans amounting to over Rs 2 crore from the Bank of India branches at Cuncolim, Chinchinim and Velim.
Cuncolim Police station in-charge, PI Sudesh Naik said that in all the three cases, the accused persons criminally conspired with the valuator in order to cheat the bank.
In the meantime, the Margao police is investigating into the case of cheating and criminal conspiracy registered against the 12 persons, including the valuator, who had all conspired to cheat the Bank of India Navelim branch to the tune of Rs 68 lakh.
